Intro
Aluminium sim racing cockpits have been making a main stage appearance in the last 5-years and gained immense popularity among sim racers. The sim racing community have been waiting for the perfect cockpit and the aluminum sim racing cockpits check all the boxes.
Aluminium sim racing cockpits originated from the desire the have a rigid platform to mount sim racing gear. And these needs took flight when the Open Sim Wheel project came to fruition on German forums, making a very powerful Direct Drive force feedback wheel reality. Because of this, the current crop of cockpits would just not suffice, and something better was needed. You couldn't just simply mount a servo motor to a table or to be honest anything that was available in the current market.
Cockpits
Aluminium simracing cockpits are well known for their extreme rigidity. They are constructed from a modular type of extrusion profile, which is lightweight and at the same time very resistant to bending and load. The key factor to its success is its modularity of it, making adjustments to your setup easy, as well as attaching new peripherals a walk in the park. Aluminium sim racing cockpits are also known as 8020 rigs, in which 8020 does not stand for the type of profile, or "size" of the extrusion profiles used. Instead, it stands for the 8020 rule. The 8020 rule is about the assumption that 80% of the job at hand is done with 20% of the effort, but the last 20% of the job is achieved with 80% of the energy. We will keep it on a statistical matter.
